The planning conversation is when a teacher and colleague(s) collaborate and focus on the student-learning priorities based on collective and individual learning needs, core curriculum, and school improvement goals. In this planning conversation, Ms Ellen, the teacher, and Ms Katie, the principal, collaboratively focus on priorities of the lesson plan that the principal will be observing (copy of Clean Planning Template). Key instructional priorities include alignment of PreK STAR curriculum to the students’ IEP goals and adapted learning activities. Another focus in the planning conversation is the focus on collaborative teaming by all adults in the room. Katie specifically asks Ellen what she would like to her to “look-n-listen for” during the observation so that the observational notes are helpful for Ellen and the instructional team’s reflection and growth.
